The European Commission has launched legal action against 3 separate cases of homophobic laws: 2 against Hungary and one against Poland. The president of the European Commission considers the Hungarian bill “a shame” and discriminatory on the basis of sexual orientation. Hungary recently passed an extremely controversial law that bans LGBTQ+ content from school educational material and television programs that engage audiences under the age of 18. The law is so specific that even showcasing something as minor as a rainbow flag or a queer presenting character is prohibited for the consumption of minors. The proposal of this law was included in a government bill that punishes paedophilia and declares that underaged individuals must not be shown pornographic contents, or any content that support the ideologies of homosexuality and gender change.
